Together with super talented photographer Yumei from Styleoncampus, I spent my Wednesday morning at NYP to hunt down the most stylish NYP-ian. Loaded with bright pink balloons and Majolica Majorca makeup workshop vouchers for the lucky selected, we tracked down 20 fashionable girls around NYP, took their photos and told them about SWAPnotshop in the hopes that they would join the clothes exchange and we could take their awesome clothes for $1!
Heres the rundown of how the morning went!
Preparing for balloon distribution with help from the awesome NYP MSC students! |
10.45am: Arrive at MSC Studio to get the balloons and pick up our student helper for the session - thank god for the extra set of hands!
11am: Friend came up with the genius idea of writing about the event on the balloon to promote SWAPnotshop. EXECUTE!
11.15am: Off with Yumei! We approach our first stylish NYP-ian and our first rejection of the day ):
Loved these looks! (psst - the girl in the middle is actually wearing her MSC uniform - way to go!) |
11.23am: I explain to the stylish girl about SWAPnotshop and she seems interested! YAY!
11.25am: We’re approached by a girl I met on Monday who really wanted a pink balloon. She purposely dressed up this time so she could get the balloon! Awww
Design students - obviously... |
11.45am: We decide to head over to another canteen as we look for more stylish “breeds” of NYP-ians and we’re in luck! Once we arrive we spot the three really well dressed girls. They’re design students - no wonder! Plus they seem even more excited about SWAPnotshop and give us great ideas on where we can find more fashionable students to take photos of.
12.00pm: Yumei’s photographer tip for reluctant subjects “If you’re shy, we can go somewhere quieter to take the photo.” Works like a charm!
Lucky NYP girls! |
12.10pm: First male specimen who agrees to have his photo taken. Amazingly enough he’s from engineering - who would have thought! Lucky NYP girls!
12.10-1pm: Mad rush to take photos of stylish NYP-ians as they leave canteens.
How natural are all these photos! |
1pm: On a teacher’s recommendation, we move over to waiting outside a Fashion Retail Seminar. Excellent talent pool and we manage to get a good 8 photos there plus a few more gentlemen as well.
1.30pm: It starts raining and the poor lighting works against Yumei. Nevertheless, we soldier on and manage to get a few good shots of a stylish teacher in the darkened walkway.
details - they really do make all the difference. shoes in particular! |
2pm: Last two girls spotted outside MSC Studio. Mission accomplished - time for lunch! Muchly tired but hugely satisfied by the super fashionable NYP-ians we’ve photographed.
2.15pm: Spot a pink balloon in yonder distance and smile (:
